At Yara, we believe in the power of diversity. Our Women in Agronomy program stands as a testament to this.
With the program, we commit to promoting gender equity in our workplace, and in the agricultural industry, through mentorship, networking, and increased visibility. The program offers a valuable platform for women in Yara to develop their skills, connect with colleagues, and advance their careers in agriculture.
Women, representing 43% of the world's agricultural workforce, are the backbone of rural economies and play an essential role throughout the entire food production chain. Yet, women in agriculture face diverse challenges.
At Yara, strengthening women’s participation in agriculture is directly connected to our ambition to grow a Nature-Positive Food Future and advance Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 5 (Gender Equality).
The Women in Agronomy Scholar Award is a Yara India initiative supporting female PhD students in Agronomy and Soil Science from ICAR-accredited universities.
The impact of the Women in Agronomy program spans three dimensions:
Women make up only 11% of agronomy & sales roles in Yara, compared to 26% globally. This initiative can create stronger linkages between academia and industry and project Yara as an attractive workplace.
Especially in plant nutrition and soil science, where women are traditionally underrepresented.
Support research that fills key knowledge gaps in Indian agriculture.
Promote gender diversity in agricultural science.
Contribute to a nature-positive food future.
With a focus on transitioning research into the corporate world, this initiative aims to provide a platform for financial support, mentorship, and corporate exposure.
