Grow More Sustainably

Strawberry growers in Mahabaleshwar were struggling to improve fruit quality, branching out, shelf life, and curbing losses felt farmers disheartened. To fight back, Yara stepped in with a science-based intervention: a customized crop nutrition program using YaraVita Gromolin and YaraVita Tropicote, along with better post-harvest practices.

"India stands at a crucial crossroad where sustainable agriculture is not merely a choice but an urgent need to address significant challenges, including climate change, shrinking resources of land and water, and degrading soil quality, which threaten food security. Regenerative agriculture presents a promising way forward; its practices enhance soil health, increase biodiversity, and improve resource efficiency. By adopting these methods, we strengthen climate resilience, restore soil fertility, and pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable agricultural future.

Yara India is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural practices that enhance soil fertility and productivity. We support farmers with the knowledge and tools to adopt these practices, ensuring a resilient agricultural ecosystem for future generations."

The Fruit of Innovation

Strawberry growers in Mahabaleshwar were struggling to improve fruit quality, branching out, shelf life, and curbing losses felt farmers disheartened. To fight back, Yara stepped in with a science-based intervention: a customized crop nutrition program using YaraVita Gromolin and YaraVita Tropicote, along with better post-harvest practices.

The change was remarkable. The fruit quality dramatically improved in size, skin firmness, and color, with damage dropping to almost zero. Yields were up, profits doubled, and Mapro’s influence soon grew for juice processing, standard flowing again to large Indian and global markets at premium prices. More than anything, it restored farmers' confidence. Many growers became community ambassadors, encouraging sustainable practices and renewed trust in science.

Pomegranates with a Purpose

Farmers at Benipawar’s SRPF’S FPO struggled with issues like poor fruit quality, low nutrient concentration, and low yields. We partnered with a science-driven solution encouraging farmers to adopt a balanced crop nutrition plan and Yara’s foliar applications tailored to local needs. With timely agronomic support, productivity rose, and businesses doubled in two years. Farmers saw their fruit quality attract global exporters and fetch higher prices.

The shift wasn’t just economic; it asserted the potential for scientific plant nutrition, indigenous leadership, and knowledge exchange to transform rural economies and push sustainable agriculture.

Revolving Roots: Field by Field

Sugarcane growers in Western Uttar Pradesh were plagued by declining yields, poor soil health, and outdated practices. Yara India partnered with Bajaj Mills to turn the tide. With demonstrations and farmer meetings organized at the mills, our nutrient-based programs reached over 1,000 farmers, who embraced efficient nutrient practices with Yara solutions.

What turned around?

  • Yields increased by 25%

  • Healthier crops with better pest resistance

  • Farmers received higher prices for improved produce

  • Stronger links between farmers, mills, and agri-experts

This isn’t just better farming; it’s smarter, sustainable, and future-proof.

What’s New

“I am a Safety Hero” – Because Every Journey Counts

In Punjab’s Ghanie Mandi, where the early morning tractor sounds are routine, Yara India teamed with the Punjab Police for the “I am a Safety Hero” program to maximize rural road safety. Through video demos, safety equipment distribution, and fertilizer handling demonstrations, Yara’s India–wide safety chain (from farmers, transporters, and neighbors) is not just about adopting best safety practices but transforming them into safe-life mindsets.
Yara believes making people safety-conscious is not due to a rule, but by being Safe by Choice.

Who’s Steering Crop Innovation?

Sanjiv Kanwar, Yara India’s Chief, has been appointed as Chair of the FICCI Task Force on Innovative Crop Nutrition.
The taskforce aims to facilitate critical discussions on the adoption of innovative solutions, maintaining quality control systems, and sustainable fertilizer applications. Additionally, it seeks recommendations to boost Indian agriculture.

Proof That Soil Speaks

Yara India released its third consecutive Sustainability Report, winning accolades at India’s Nutri-Positive Food Future.
At the Regional Knowledge Expo, the report drew interest from policymakers and farmers for its insights into soil health, sustainable practices, and regenerative agriculture. It highlighted how farmers using efficient nutrient programs and decision-enabled tools were not only improving their yields but also reducing environmental footprints.
This recognition underlines the momentum India is gaining in soil stewardship and the global importance of the collective mission of preserving and safeguarding soil.

Cracking the Apple Code

At a recent CII Apple Conclave, Yara spotlighted the vital role of phosphorus and calcium in fruit development, citing how YaraVita Stopit and YaraVita range support reducing post-harvest damage, drive nutrient uptake, enhance fruit quality and profitability.
The session impressed policymakers and farmer leaders committed to improving the incomes of apple growers of Himachal Pradesh using sustainable and science-driven approaches.

What Works Better Than National?

At a recent agri-media panel on content communication strategies, Vaibhav Chopra highlighted how companies using scientific solutions must run regional approaches. He emphasized the need for tactical + emotional delivery with local media, using vernaculars, and running state-focused narratives on key agriculture issues to build trust and create grassroots impact.

Awards
