Programme Details

Agriculture supports 43% of India’s workforce and contributes 18% to GDP, yet rural farmers continue to struggle with small landholdings, declining soil health, depleting groundwater, and low mechanization. Climate variability further threatens yields and incomes. Uttar Pradesh, contributing 20% of India’s foodgrain output, is dominated by small and marginal farmers (86%) who face challenges like declining soil fertility, rising input costs, and limited mechanization. In Sambhal, reliance on paddy, sugarcane, and wheat, combined with water scarcity, keeps productivity low. Kiran’s agriculture program strengthens farming systems through soil and water conservation, efficient irrigation, and farmer capacity-building.

Agriculture Development

Interventions include:

  • Laser land leveling
  • Deep ploughing
  • Organic manure promotion
  • Underground pipelines
  • Technical training

Outcomes

  • Majority of farmers now achieve 3–5 quintals yield vs. earlier 2–3 quintals
  • 85% report 70%+ improvement in production
  • Income growth: 38% earn ₹1–2 lakhs, 10% ₹2.1–3 lakhs, others above ₹3 lakhs
  • Significant water savings per hectare: paddy (40%), wheat (41%), sugarcane (33%)

Kiran’s integrated approach is improving soil health, saving water, raising incomes, and enhancing the resilience of small farmers in Sambhal.
