Yara India Issues Urgent Heatwave Crop Advisory to Safeguard Summer Paddy Yields in Punjab
Punjab, 25 June, 2026— Yara, world’s leading fertilizer company and provider of environmental solutions has issued an agricultural advisory to support farmers combating the severe heatwaves currently sweeping across Northern India. As summer temperatures cross critical thresholds, crops are facing intense physiological stress that threatens overall food security and regional farm incomes. Through this advisory, Yara India aims to equip farmers, particularly those in Punjab, with scientific, nutrient-based strategies to protect their crops from thermal shock, preserve plant health, and ensure optimal yields during this challenging weather cycle.
The advisory is based on how extreme heat impacts plant biology. High temperatures cause oxidative stress, leading to the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that damage cell membranes and result in flower and fruit drop. To reduce this damage, Yara’s agronomists recommend key nutrients such as Calcium, which supports leaf cooling and cell wall strength, and Potassium, which helps regulate water balance within the plant. The use of Bio-stimulants and Zinc is also advised to strengthen the plant’s natural antioxidant defences against heat stress.
In Punjab, this intense thermal shock is currently threatening the Summer Paddy crop, leading to severe pollen sterility, poor grain filling, and highly restricted biomass development. To mitigate these specific challenges, Yara India advises farmers in the region to adopt a sequential foliar application strategy. Farmers should immediately apply a foliar combination of YaraVita Zintrac, a premium, high-concentration zinc formulation, alongside YaraTera KRISTA K to manage water stress and stabilize cell turgor. This should be followed by a timely application of YaraVita Seniphos, which delivers highly mobile phosphorus and calcium to enhance grain filling, strengthen cell walls, and boost overall crop biomass.
Commenting on this timely advisory, Sanjiv Kanwar, Managing Director of Yara South Asia, said, “Our priority at Yara India is building climate resilience by equipping farmers with science-backed crop nutrition to combat extreme weather. By empowering them with these advanced technologies, we aim to safeguard crop productivity and secure livelihoods. We encourage farmers to use YaraConnect or reach out to our local teams for precise guidance during this challenging season.”
Through its science-backed crop nutrition solutions and agronomic expertise, Yara India remains committed to helping farmers build resilience against climate challenges and safeguard crop productivity for a sustainable future.
